Same great taste, dot net version

It has been raining the past couple of days during this long weekend. Sleeping early and sleeping in? DELICIOUS. How’s your weekend going?

I know. I have resurfaced after many months of radio silence and after suddenly dropping the .com, swapping it with .net, too! What other crazy things have I been doing? So glad you asked because there’s really nothing new, except… oh! A a book, a movie, and a few kdramas. Take these as recommendations, if you will. I did drop some kdramas, like “Marriage, Not Dating” and “The Secret Romantic Guesthouse.” But the ones I kept watching are mentioned here. I hope you enjoy reading about them! 🙂

“Birthday” by Koji Suzuki

I’m just a few pages into this book, but I’m liking the writing style and tone so far. It’s horror and part of “The Ring” universe. Yes, “The Ring” as in Sadako. I still remember that feeling of dreaded fear when I first watched that movie, even after all these years. *shudder* I’m really looking forward to reading more of “Birthday.” My horror fan heart is eager to devour this one.

“The Ghost Station”

I just came across this one and was watching the first 10 minutes of it, but then I started feeling sleepy. Not because of the movie. It’s just my old, weary bones reacting to late nights. 😅 I plan to continue watching it today.

Here’s the link to the webtoon that inspired the movie: “Episode 9 – The Ghost of Oksu Station.” Enjoy!

Kdrama report Q2: Underwhelming choices, but thank goodness there’s always a good murder mystery

“The Real Has Come!”

I thought I was getting myself into the usual romcom. Turns out that while it is a romcom, it’s also 50 episodes long because it’s a family drama. The main leads, Oh Yeon Doo and Gong Tae Kyung enter into a fake relationship, with each to gain from it. They learn more and more about each other, about themselves, and their families along the way. I wish it’s September already, so I’m not left with cliffhangers every weekend. This drama is enjoyable to watch. Makes me look forward to weekends.

“My Perfect Stranger”

In this kdrama, the main leads (Baek Yoon Young and Yoon Hae Joon) travel back in time to 1987. There they meet the younger versions of their parents and it’s also there that they try to uncover who the serial killer is. The same serial killer who is responsible for the death of Yoon Young’s mother and Hae Joon’s own death in the present time and near future.

“My Perfect Stranger” is the perfect kdrama to watch if you’re looking for compelling characters, a good ol’ whodunnit, and something that’s both touching and funny. You know it’s a good mystery when everyone seems sus. I swear there wasn’t an episode where I trusted someone. Also, watch out for that high school kid, Go Mi Sook. 👀 I don’t think she’s to be trusted. At all.

“Oh! Youngsim”

Oh Young Shim and Wang Kyung Tae are childhood friends who meet again after 20 years. Young Shim is a variety show PD who’s struggling to stay afloat in her career. Kyung Tae is a successful entrepreneur and has seen some glow up since he and Young Shim parted in bad terms when they were kids. Their reunion is not a happy one, but they need to work together for a project.

“Oh! Youngsim” has the first love and hate-to-love tropes. It’s a light and fluffy romcom that doesn’t leave a bitter aftertaste, even after watching eight episodes. Just don’t expect depth and drama here. If you want some brainless fun for a romcom, then this kdrama might be what you need to help you kick back and relax.

June has snuck up on me and its first half is going by at the speed of light. I’m not sure how to feel about that. I don’t know how to feel about things anymore. 😅 All I know is that books and kdrama help keep insanity at bay. 😂

I hope you’re all doing well, wherever you are. And remember: Naps and chocolate cakes can help solve 50% of life’s problems.
