7 Webtoons perfect for Halloween reading (with links!)

Or even during those late nights, curled up in your bed, with nothing but your trusty lamp keeping you company. Bonus if it’s raining.

I know, I know. It’s too early for Halloween, but for us horror fans? Anything horror is never too early. And for today, I bring you a Halloween treat that’s 126 days early. All treats, no tricks. If you love horror as much as I do, then this post is for you. Oh hey! If you’re also only getting started on being a horror fan, this post is for you, too. I mean, who am I to gatekeep these 7 great horror webtoons? 😄

Now plop down on the bed or sofa or floor (whatever floats your boat), grab your choice of snacks, and start reading these. Fair warning: One or two of these webtoons are interactive and contain jump scares. With that caveat out of the way… I hope you enjoy this list!

The Vault of Horror: A Collection of Nightmares

Are you up for some nightmares and terror? This webtoon promises and delivers exactly those. It has 23 episodes, with the first one, “Research”, starting off strong. This webtoon has bathroom ghosts, that feeling of impending doom when you’re lost in an unfamiliar place, a strange visitor, and more.

Unknown Caller

With only three episodes in this horror anthology, “Unknown Caller” makes the reading experience even more enjoyable (or horrific, if you’re wary of jump scares) by using AR. You read that right: This webtoon uses augmented reality. Get ready to get spooked and scared more than the usual, thanks to that extra something.

Shriek

You’d think that with all the other horror anthologies mentioned in this list, we’d get the same thing over and over again. Nope, not with this one. “Shriek” comes with special effects as you scroll through an episode. You think that image of a Sadako-like creature is scary enough? Keep scrolling. You haven’t seen anything yet.

Ghost Teller

This one is a personal favorite of mine because it doesn’t just narrate the supernatural type of horror. “Ghost Teller” goes beyond the ghost tropes and delves into what makes human more terrifying than things that go bump in the night.

Sweet Home

If you’re into kdramas or Korean dramas, then you’d probably be familiar with this one. “Sweet Home” started out as a webtoon, and what an awesome webtoon it is! Unlike the previous ones listed here, this one isn’t a horror anthology.

“Sweet Home” follows the story of Cha Hyun Soo, a high school student who ends up living alone in Green Home. It is there in that apartment building that his life changes and not for the better, either. He wakes up one day to find some of his neighbors turning into monsters. This webtoon is also completed, so you can breathe a sigh of relief that there won’t be any cliffhangers, where you’re forced to wait another week to find out what happens next.

(P.S. The kdrama version has second and third seasons. You can find out more about it here.)

Horang’s Nightmare

This horror anthology has 10 episodes, with its 9th episode being an inspiration for a recent Korean horror movie, “The Ghost Station.” Each story in this webtoon is creepy, eerie, and terrifying. I just have to say this: Just when you thought moving in alone at a semi-basement is depressing enough… something unexpected wakes you up in the middle of the night.

Tales of the Unusual

This is another personal favorite of mine. Just like “Ghost Teller”, this webtoon doesn’t rely on ghosts and jump scares to make us shudder and read with one eye open as we continue scrolling through the app. “Tales of the Unusual” also depicts the dark side of humans and spins them into wonderfully weird and eerie stories.

I hope you enjoyed reading about these 7 horror webtoons, whether it’s Halloween or not! I still have more horror stuff to share with you, like movies and other terrifying webtoons, but that’s another post for another time. 🙂
