Hello there, fine folks who tumbled down the rabbit hole and found my little space in this corner of the internet! I’m honored and pleased to have you as my guest here. Please, do take a seat. Never mind the cobwebs. They’re harmless reminders that I haven’t really been blogging lately.
Today’s menu (not in chronological order, because we like to get wild and crazy over here):
We’ve got aliens, a funny but true (and relatable!) video on creative anxiety and procrastination, my new favorite album, and a sprinkle of horror. 👻 Without further ado, let’s get on with the show! Erm, I mean blog post.
“The Invitation”: A short Japanese horror film
Being only 13 minutes short, this Japanese horror film is actually part of the Japan Horror Film Competition (2023). I’ve watched the other two, “Closet” and “Karakasa” and this one is the best for me. I have yet to watch one more, “Best Wishes to All”, to complete them, though.
“The Invitation” wastes no time in starting off with a dark and ominous vibe: A police officer receives a call. The person on the other ends reports that there’s a house where a strong stench is coming from. Also? The lights haven’t been turned on for days. So two police officers are dispatched there and they both uncover the horrors inside the apartment.
I’m not going to go into details to avoid spoilers. “The Invitation” isn’t such a bad short horror film. It was 13 minutes well spent. The ending was tied up all neatly. No mindfuckery here. Just pure, simple horror served straight and neat.
Aliens! Aliens everywhere!
I haven’t really been watching a lot of kdrama lately. The past couple of days, I was feeling under the weather and so I slept more during my free time. Also, I couldn’t seem to decide what kdrama to watch. I gave “Lovely Runner” a try, but I just wasn’t feeling it. And so late one Friday night, I kicked off a long weekend by just hitting play on “Parasyte: They Grey” kdrama.
This has been on my to-watch list forever and the first episode really exceeded my expectations. I was all set and prepared to be bombarded with a lot of action scenes! And aliens! And more action scenes! Turns out they took a nice (and perfect length of) time building the story. Plus points for the moody vibe, too.
“Parasyte: The Grey” is a story about the so-called parasites who now live among us and use human bodies as hosts. They’re programmed to worm their way into our brains and take over our bodies, effectively killing the human host. When you’re not aware and careful, the person next to you might as well already be a parasite. Everyone is stumped when there’s an anomalous human/parasite. That’s when all hell breaks loose on both sides, as if the earth isn’t already in chaos.
This kdrama seems promising. I really like the characters. I also like the dilemma of having a half-human, half-parasite hybrid. With only six episodes, I’m most probably going to binge-watch this over the long weekend. Who knows? I might even end up watching the Japanese ones, too.
WayV’s fifth mini album, Give Me That – A random yet pleasant surprise
My world of kpop is pretty tiny. I don’t even bother keeping up anymore. My Spotify has been playing the same set of songs since 2020. 😂 One fateful night, as I was deciding whether I should play Baekhyun’s Delight album or Taylor Swift’s TTPD, Spotify threw some recommendations at me and WayV was one of them.
I’m a bit familiar with the kpop group and because I was feeling reckless and restless, I chose “Give Me That” and started playing the title track. I was surprised, in a good way. A great way. The first song is a bop, and the rest of them is pretty good, too! TMI: I like my songs catchy and upbeat when taking a shower, so I can imagine myself dancing onstage like them kpop groups while I rinse the overpowering scent of shampoo off my hair. Sometimes, I belt out a line or two. Especially when said lines are in English. (Ahem! “Hear Me Out” by EXO, anyone? 😆)
On creativity and procrastination, Fredrik Backman style
“My brain and I are not friends. My brain and I are classmates doing a group assignment called ‘life’ and it’s not going great.” This is just one of the witty, funny things he said in those four minutes. This video of the writer talking about #writerlife is such a gem and a joy. Please watch it. You won’t regret it.
And that’s it for me. We have a long weekend over here and I just want to soak it in. Savor every minute of it. Hopefully, I get to do something productive and not just sleep most of the days away. 😔 Being the Eternally Tired Girl™ can be such a drag sometimes.
I hope you’re enjoying your weekend! ✨ Do what makes you happy, but harm no one. Take no shit, but harm no one.
Also? Stay hydrated. Stay sane. Six months from now and we’re nearing saying good bye to 2024. I know. Where did the year go, right?! So let’s enjoy each day, ESPECIALLY THE WEEKENDS AND THE HOLIDAYS.
Have fun doing whatever floats your boat, folks! 🫶🏼
