Today things: Horror recs podcast + movies edition

Ohai! I am starting off this post with a sun-infused weekend hello. It’s pretty cloudy and at 31°C. I’m surprised it feels cooler than that. But I’m not complaining. I’ve been in a pretty weird time frame of creative projects. For the most part, I feel like time seems oh-so-slow the past weeks. I’m guessing it’s because while I am thrilled to be working on multiple creative endeavors all at once, personal problems keep resurfacing. I wish I’m in a better headspace but I do what I can and have to do. Otherwise I’m going to spiral down if I don’t watch out for myself.

But enough sad TMI.

I’ve been consuming words a lot lately ó mostly from newsletters and Medium articles. I love learning new things and getting lost in the world of fiction. When I’m not reading, I am catching up on my current favorite kdramas: “Alchemy of Souls” and “Adamas.” I’ve tried watching “Today’s Webtoon” and while it’s funny and even touching, I’m not entirely invested in it. I used to love “Cafe Minamdang” but that one has fallen off my radar of interest, too. This is clearly a case of “It’s not you it’s me.” because both kdramas are pretty good. I guess I’m just not in the mood for them at this point. Who knows? I’ll probably circle back to them soon. I mean, like I (almost) always say: stranger things have happened.

Dear Pinterest…

Please stop sending me notifications on photos of Lay Zhang shirtless.

I know it’s probably one of the hot searches in your search engine (and it’s not hard to see why), but I like him — no, love — I love him bare-faced. I mean, have you even seen him in “Reknow”? The man just doesn’t have a beautiful face. He has a beautiful handwriting, too. He makes mine look clunky and chunky and I would’ve felt bad except that Lay Zhang is someone who actually creates, arranges, and produces music. AND he dances so, so well, too. Somehow, those facts take the sting away. At least my handwriting lost to someone THAT multi-talented and great.

A List of Things: Mechanical Keyboards and Current Kdramas

This post brought to you by that languishing limbo where creativity and laziness intersect. Got insomnia? Try listening to a horror podcast that’s three hours long, narrated by someone with a mesmerizing voice. And said someone can lull to sleep even the best of the night owls around the world. (Make no mistake. The podcast is great and the narrator is good. I really enjoy it. You can listen to it here.)

Clickety-clack! Maybe not too much, though…

Lately, I’ve been on the hunt for The Perfect Keyboard TM and it’s all thanks to my sister who made me aware that there are more to keyboards than I actually know about. I’ve been looking into different mechanical keyboards and I’ve settled with Akko 3068, pink switch. I’m not too crazy about loud clicky sounds, so the softer ones are perfect for me. Who knew the world of mechanical keyboards can be interesting? So far, here are some of the things I’ve discovered:

  • Keyboards come in different sizes, such as 65% and Tenkeyless (TKL).
  • Their backlight effects are awesome. (See video below.)
  • Different keyboards have different switches.
  • Different switches have different levels of loudness and they are categorized by colors.
  • Blue switch is loud; I know pink and orange are some of the less loud ones. Also red.
  • They also have the “silent” ones, though. Example: Cherry MX Silent Red and Gateron Silent Red and Black.
  • And lastly, two words: linear and tactile.

“To actuate a linear switch, you must push it all the way down, like a membrane key. To actuate a tactile switch, you usually push it about halfway down; you can continue pressing the key after that, but you can also take your finger off and move to the next key right away.”

Tom’s Guide

You can even modify your mechanical keyboard! Swap all the keys with a completely new design or just pick a couple of keys to change. Doing that really gives your keyboard a more personal feel.
