Musings on “Dark Hole”

Halfway through episode four of OCN’s new kdrama, “Dark Hole”, and this was what’s been playing in my head the whole time:

So far, we have:

  • A psychopath serial killer on the loose
  • A mysterious black smoke that brings the worst out in people and then turns them into something akin to zombies. (They call them “mutants” in the show, though.)
  • A shaman who will do anything to get her powers back
  • A group of high school bullies
  • A cult that’s frightening on its own

Each of these things are already scary on their own. But what happens when all these occur, one after another? Sometimes I wonder where will I be in the kdrama if that was reality. Will I be out there in the woods with the bullies, surveying the so-called mysterious sink hole 🕳 , unaware of its fatal threat to humanity? And when it comes to choosing which place I will shelter in, would I choose the hospital or the school? Perhaps stay with the cult in their building, with their homegrown water and large cross and their mumblings of “I believe!”?

It seems like I’m back in the 90s, where I’m reading a Choose Your Own Adventure book. It’s all fun and games until you’re actually in that scenario. I sincerely hope we don’t ever find ourselves in such a drastic situation. I mean, the pandemic is bad enough. I really shouldn’t worry about sink holes and black smoke and mutants. I think I should worry about psychopaths and fanatics. At least those belong to the realm of reality.

This is the pilot issue of my newsletter, Mad Girl’s Missive. It’s where I talk briefly about my take and musings on different kdramas. I also talk about life experiences. This newsletter goes out twice a month: mid-month and end of the month. If kdramas and talking about life are something you enjoy, I’d love to have you in my list. 🙂 No spams, I promise! And no recaps, either. I’m awful at those. 😬 😆 Click here or the image below to check it out.
